CHD Expert’s 2017 Restaurant Unit Report dissects the restaurant landscape across the USA
At CHD Expert, we understand how valuable comprehensive foodservice industry intelligence is for suppliers and chain restaurants that want to expand their territory. This is why we continue to compile and segment data on the volume of restaurants operating across the United States. Our 2017 Restaurant Unit Report provides a quick, easy-to-understand snapshot of the number and types of restaurants in each of the 50 states.
As of March 2017, there are more than 700,700 restaurants in operation across the United States. This is a 3% positive net growth of almost 22,000 restaurant locations since March 2016.
In total, 37 states saw positive growth since 2016, as did Washington D.C., where our nation’s capital grew by 2.7%. Growth on the state level was most remarkable in New York, Texas, Illinois, North Dakota and Michigan.
Considering growth by Menu Type, the strongest uptick was among Bar & Grills. This menu type added more than 4,400 units nation wide, and was the only menu type to have a net increase in every state (and D.C.).
