Summer Fancy Food Show 2014 Recap
The 60th Fancy Food Summer Show wrapped up on Tuesday in New York City. Being the largest specialty food & beverage event in North America with 180,000 innovative specialty food products on display, there was plenty to see and discover, including confections, cheese, coffee, snacks, spices, ethnic, natural, organic and more. The Fancy Food Show was huge – literally, as 2,730 exhibitors occupied the entire Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.
There was a sea of booths occupying the convention center, but these were the standout sections for us:
- What’s New – Foodservice products that are new to the market.
- Countries – 49 different countries and regions were represented. China and Italy had the largest presence, followed by Brazil and Mexico. Spain also had several people showcasing.
- States – Vermont, Wisconsin, New York, Kansas, Massachusetts.
There was an abundance of cured meats, olives, oils, vinegar, cheeses, jams and sauces on hand to sample and enjoy. NAR Gourmet exhibited a variety of handcrafted Turkish olive oils, vinegars, spices, jams, and marmalades. The brand uses only all-natural and seasonal ingredients sourced from artisans and trusted farmers. We were impressed with the innovative new ways in which the show’s exhibitors found to reinvent the classics through fusions, processes, flavors, and recipe changes.
While gluten free options have proven to be the next big trend on restaurant menus, gluten free products weren’t as present as we thought they might be at the show. Even so, a wide range of natural and organic products were on display.
On the other hand, the beverage category was alive and well and pushing a variety of new products, including Matcha Soda, flavored waters, Kambucha, and ginger-flavored drinks.
We relished our time at the Fancy Food Summer Show, and enjoyed the opportunity to experience the latest in the specialty food & beverage industry.
