Food delivery start-up Postmates, now a unicorn, wants to 'pour on a little gas' ahead of its IPO

Postmates has raised $300 million in venture capital funding, boosting its financial firepower against well-capitalized competitors including Uber and SoftBank-backed DoorDash. The latest round led by Tiger Global Management values Postmates at about $1.2 billion. It more than doubles the total funding Postmates has raised in its seven-year history.

US-based ezCater Acquires French-based GoCater

After attracting a cool $100 million of investor cash to be used to fuel international expansion, the Boston-based ezCater acquired GoCater, a Paris-headquartered corporate catering platform. Shortly after the news broke, we spoke with ezCater Founder Stefania Mallett who said the French acquisition was the first move as the company works to establish further beachheads across Europe.

Europe is world leader in terms of craft beer innovation – research

While craft has been around for years in Europe, the continent is now taking a global leadership role in craft beer innovation. Beer drinkers in Poland (64%), France (63%), Italy (61%) and Germany (50%) are all interested in trying different types of craft beer, such as Indian pale ales or other pale ales, which are already commonplace in the more mature UK craft beer market.

Kraft Heinz to Pour More Investment Into the Convenience Channel

Kraft Heinz is reinvesting in the company, shifting toward an organic growth strategy, according to CEO Bernardo Hees. Notably, it added roughly 300 in-store operators and earmarked money for convenience stores, club stores, dollar stores, gas stations, e-commerce and foodservice, Food Business News reported.

Online delivery platforms join BrandZ Top 75 Most Valuable UK list

British online food and drink delivery platforms Just Eat, Innocent, Deliveroo and Brewdog have been named in the BrandZ Top 75 Most Valuable UK Brands list. This is the first time these brands have entered the list. Just Eat made it to the top 30 by securing the last position. The study was conducted by WPP and Kantar Millward Brown.

US chain Pokeworks signs new deal to expand in Mexico

As part of the expansion, Pokeworks will initially open its franchises in emerging Mexican cities including San Luis Potosi, and then in primary cities such as Monterrey, Ciudad de Mexico, Guadalajara, and the Bajio region of West North-Central Mexico.
